**About the Position** 

The Senior Research Analyst (Fisheries and Aquaculture) supports the development and delivery of climate-resilient fisheries and aquaculture programs that help strengthen island food systems in the Solomon Islands in response to climate change. A key focus of the role is supporting sustainable aquatic-based livelihoods for women, men, and youth in ways that protect marine ecosystems, reduce climate risks, and create long-term benefits for both communities and the environment. The role involves researching best practices and innovative approaches in fisheries and aquaculture, helping design training and education materials, and supporting community capacity building and university education programs. The position also includes delivering workshops, demonstrations, and other learning activities that encourage knowledge sharing and build practical skills in sustainable fisheries and aquaculture management. In addition, the role supports monitoring and evaluating program activities, managing budgets, promoting inclusive and gender-sensitive community engagement, and building strong relationships with partners, local communities, the public in Gizo, and visitors to WorldFish Nusatupe Innovation hub.

**Key Responsibilities**

-   Undertake background research and literature review to identify international best practice, regional guidance and relevant case studies on fisheries and aquaculture practices.
-   Provide technical knowledge, information and advice on new or innovative technologies and practices that enhance climate resilience for inclusion in the design and preparation of training and information materials.
-   Support the planning and design of a community capacity building program that encourages two-way sharing of knowledge and develops skills for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture management.
-   Support the planning and design of an education program for university research students and national experts.
-   Deliver selected education, training and capacity building workshops, on-site demonstrations and other relevant approaches to target audiences to enhance knowledge and technical capability.
-   Provide technical input to monitor, obtain feedback and evaluate the effectiveness of the education program and capacity building activities.
-   Prepare and acquire budgets in a timely manner
-   Understand and adopt an appreciative gender sensitive approach to community-based activities
-   Develop and nurture relationships with cross-sectoral partners including development NGO’s, Gizo public, visitors to Nusatupe to foster practices and a culture of knowledge sharing and learning among hub staff and partners
-   Provide Effective Communication with the public in Gizo and visitors to Nusatupe

## Requirements

-   Undergraduate degree qualification bachelor’s degree in fisheries, aquaculture, marine science, natural resource management or related field.
-   At least 5 years of experience in fisheries management, policy research, aquaculture development, and/or rural development.
-   Good understanding of climate change impacts and resilience measures for island food systems.
-   Strong command of written and spoken English.
-   Able to communicate basic scientific concepts effectively in Pidgin and English
-   Possess good relationship development skills with rural Solomon Islands communities
-   Reliable, confident and enthusiastic with excellent organizational skills

**Desirable Skills/Experience**

-   Experience in fisheries, aquaculture, climate resilience, or community-based resource management.
-   Strong communication, training, and community engagement skills.
-   Knowledge of sustainable and climate-smart fisheries and aquaculture practices.

## Benefits

This is a **Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS)** position and WorldFish offers a competitive remuneration package including comprehensive benefits (but not limited to) insurance coverage for staff and eligible dependents, employer provident fund contribution, paid leave, and others. **The duration of the contract will initially be for a 31-month period** with possibility of extension, depending on funding and performance.
